This article will help you with the basic installation of the Lite web application.
- Project created with Professional or Ultimate edition of the desktop product
- Physical or virtual server environment with Windows OS and the desired connectivity
- Server product with valid licenses (server and lite license files)
- Self signed or official SSL certificate
Step 1: Installing the needed components
If possible it is advised to separete the OS applications and the prerequisites for the Lite web client by installing the componets on a seperate partition (in this example the D:\ drive)
Typical Installation Locations
D:\Program Files\Professional (desktop product)
D:\Program Files/Server (server product)
D:\Project\ (project file created with the desktop product)
D:\Data\ (if needed the file based data sources)
D:\Logs\ (directory for the server log files)
Create the needed directorties, move yourproject file to the correct location and install the desktop and server products on the application server.
Step 2: Installing the SSL certificate
If you have an official SSL certificate install it and bind it to port 443 (official https port). In this article we will create a self signed certificate using the Spatial Eye HTTPS Configurator application (download the application here)
Step 3: Installing the licenses
In order to start the Server with the Lite application enabled, the Server and Lite licenses should be placed in the Licenses folder of the Server installation.
Step 4: Setting up a basemap
It is possible to set up an external basemap for the Lite application. This is done by editing the ServiceProviders.xml in the ServiceProviders folder. You can find an example file in the Sample directory.
Supported Basemap Providers
Step 5: Setting up the location of the projectfile
Adjust the .config file in the root directory of the Server to set the path of the project file (this should be the full path like D:\Project\example.seproject)
Step 6: Installing the server as a windows service
Open the command prompt as administrator and go to the root directory of the Server, the *.exe file can be used to install the server as a windows service. Use the following switches to install the service /install /name YourServiceName /serviceport 443 (/? switch will show all possinle options).
You can see the information of the server in the D:\Program Files\Server\Logs\YourServiceName\*.log file.
If all the prerequisites are met (licenses, SSL, project file location, OS rights) and the Server can access the data sources that were defined in the project file, the service will be running succesfully.
Step 7: Server Management
Now it's possible to start the Server Management using Internet Explorer (with the Silverlight Addin) and finish the configuration. Go to the management page at https://yourservername/Management and adjust the location of the directories of server data and log files if needed (default username: Administrator and default password: admin).
Step 8: Start Lite
It's time to start the application and view the results. Example: https://demo.spatial-eye.com/ (username: Demo and password: welcome)
